The N47 engine debuted in March 2007 in the facelifted 1 Series BMW E87 and E81 and was available in the 1 Series BMW E82 and E88, which were introduced later in the same year. The engine is a four-cylinder common rail diesel engine that has many improvements over its predecessor, the M47. But in 2014 it was replaced with the B47 engine. I got the car read by BMW diagnostic software and it is showing these fault codes. 2A8800 - Engine speed picks up too slowly in an automatic start, or no driver detected during starting operation. 2A8900 - MSA: Starting system not activated or automatic engine starting time unacceptably.

The 164bhp 2005-2007 320d has a small number of turbo failures, but not a terrifyingly high amount. This was the weaker Mitsubishi turbo also used in the E46 320d which suffered from the same thing. The only issue with the 184 is that it can't be mapped without removing the ECU.
This engine is basically good, but has had a history of problems with the timing chain and tensioners. BMW recalled a lot of these engines. Be sure this issue has been addressed on any E90 320d (may also apply to 318d). A broken or jumped timing chain could require engine replacement.:drive:
